Earth Day
What's Earth day? If you don't know what it is, either you've been stuck in a cave so long that your brain went moldy or I can't think of anything else. Earth day - A day where people gets more awareness about saving the Earth and mysteriously forgets them the over the next few days.
I bet you people know at least that Earth day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. But, that's all you know right?
Earth day is actually founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson on April 22, 1970. That day, 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment. Denis Hayes, the national coordinator, and his youthful staff organized massive coast-to-coast rallies. Thousands of colleges and universities organized protests against the deterioration of the environment. Groups that had been fighting against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife suddenly realized they shared common values. Senator Nelson had conceive the idea after the 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill incident. Outraged by the devastation and Washington political inertia, Nelson proposed a national teach-in on the environment to be observed by every university campus in the U.S.

Earth Day in 1970
And like many other corporates, companies, government, schools ... etc, SP went green too. In fact, SP went green a long time ago. SP even has her own green pledge. In 1998, the Green Pledge was written, collectively by the SP Green Committee, led by Dr Ng Cheng Siong.
And in case you were wondering, here is the pledge.
We the staff and students of the Singapore Polytechnic,
pledge to Green our campus,
reduce, reuse and recycle,
educate ourselves on green issues,
encourage others to do likewise,
and nurture a love for our environment
so that we can create a cleaner and healthier home for ourselves and our future.
As usual, I'm rather lazy to explain what happen so, you can just hop by here to see.
After all this words, I still have not come to the point which I wanted to say. As this post is rather lengthy, I guess I'll continue soon or another time.8:44 PM
